Savings aren't automatic, though, and depend on your insurance company and the wildfire mitigation steps you've taken around your home.
Why It Matters: Homeowners know insurance premiums have become a growing concern, especially in wildfire-prone areas. While this designation won't automatically lower your bill, it's a good reminder to check with your insurance company. You might already qualify for discounts, or find that a few practical improvements around your home could save money over time.
♿ Easier access to aging, disability services
The Gist: Los Angeles County has joined California's Aging and Disability Resource Connection, making it easier for older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers to find the services they need. Instead of figuring out which agency to call first, residents can start with any participating organization, including Claremont's Service Center for Independent Life, and be connected to the right resources.
Why It Matters: Finding help can be overwhelming when you're already caring for a loved one or trying to navigate a new disability. This new "no wrong door" approach means neighbors can spend less time getting bounced between agencies and more time getting connected with the services they actually need.
