We've been noticing something lately: this corner of the San Gabriel Valley has a real talent for showing up for each other. Whether it's a stage full of performers who refuse to slow down, or a garden partnership rooted in generations of knowledge, this issue is full of people doing things because they care, not because anyone's watching.

🌿 Botanic Garden formalizes tribal partnership
The Gist: California Botanic Garden and the Gabrieleno San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians signed an agreement Aug. 11 focused on native plants, traditional ecological knowledge and education. The first event under the partnership is a Sept. 5 workshop led by Gabrieleno naturalist Seth Johnson.
Why It Matters: This gives people a chance to learn about the plants that are native to our area from someone with a direct connection to that knowledge. The Sept. 5 workshop will cover traditional ways of identifying and harvesting local plants, making the partnership something people can experience firsthand.
🎭 Silver Fox Follies returns Sunday
The Gist: The Silver Fox Follies returns Aug. 30 to the Bonita Center for the Arts, bringing performers ages 55 to 94 together for an afternoon of music, dance and classic entertainment. The annual show also raises money for Rising Stars of Equestrian Therapy, which works with children with disabilities. The show starts at 2 p.m. Aug. 30. Tickets are available through the Bonita Center for the Arts.
Why It Matters: There’s something pretty special about watching people in their 70s, 80s and 90s still getting dressed up, learning routines and stepping onto the stage. This year’s show also includes dancers with disabilities, making it an afternoon that celebrates what people can do at every age and ability.
