Happy Labor Day weekend, Foothills! Hope you get a little extra time to relax, enjoy some good food, and maybe squeeze in one last summer outing.

There’s plenty happening around town if you’re looking for something to do, from vintage cars and farmers markets to live music and family-friendly events. We’ve also got a few local stories worth knowing about. So before you head out for the long weekend, catch up with what’s happening close to home:

🐻 A bear family climbs to safety in La Verne

Photo Note: Image generated for illustrative purposes to capture the scene

The Gist: A mother bear and her two cubs are safe after getting trapped inside a concrete water tank at Marshall Canyon Regional Park in La Verne. The trio squeezed through a tiny 1-foot opening and were stuck for over 12 hours before a hiker spotted them on Aug. 29. First responders launched "Operation Care Bear," widening the gap and lowering a ladder so the scared animals could climb out on their own.

Why It Matters: It is a heartwarming reminder of the wonderful wildlife sharing our mountain trails and how quickly our local first responders step up. Thanks to a quick-thinking hiker and the L.A. County Fire Department, a scary situation turned into a happy ending for our local forest neighbors.

🧠 A $400,000 bet on more local therapists

The Gist: Claremont nonprofit Uncommon Good has launched a behavioral health stipend program backed by a $400,000 grant from Pasadena's UniHealth Foundation. It covers up to $40,000 in training costs for 10 to 15 professionals over two years, with the goal of adding marriage and family therapists and licensed clinical social workers in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. MED Program Director Eric Santizo, who came up through the nonprofit's own Connect to College program, is running it.

Why It Matters: Both counties are short on therapists and social workers, part of a shortage the state has been tracking since 2025. This is a local organization trying to fix a local piece of it. For more info:

Twenty Years In Real Estate Taught Me This: Strategy Beats Experience.

After more than twenty years in real estate, here's what I've learned: the best decisions come from strategy, not just experience. Selling, inheriting a property, relocating, or buying an investment? You don't need another sales pitch, you need clarity. That's why I created the Real Estate Strategy Center: ninety minutes to build a custom plan around your goals, finances, and timeline. No pressure, no obligation.
