The foothills do Father's Day well. There's a reason dads from La Verne to Glendora have been walking into the same restaurants and the same local shops for decades, some places just earn that kind of loyalty.

This week we found two of them. One serves prime rib. The other sells banjos.

We also have news: a planning milestone in Glendora and a heads-up for Claremont families already thinking about the Fourth. The week ahead has live music in the park, a mariachi performance inside a garden, classic cars on a Saturday morning, and a Juneteenth celebration in the Village. Take a look.

🎆 Fourth of July fireworks tickets now on sale

The Gist: Tickets are now available for Claremont’s annual Fourth of July celebration at Pomona College’s Strehle Track. The July 4 event will feature live music from Pop Vinyl, a barbecue dinner hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Claremont, and a fireworks show. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online, in person, or at the gate if available.

Why It Matters: For many Claremont families, the fireworks show is one of those traditions that marks the start of summer celebrations with friends and neighbors. Between the music, barbecue, and fireworks, it’s a chance for the community to gather and celebrate together close to home.

💧 Glendora adopts updated water management plan

The Gist: Glendora City Council has adopted the city's 2025 Urban Water Management Plan, which outlines the reliability of local water supplies and long-term planning needs. State law requires the plan to be updated every five years and filed with the California Department of Water Resources.

Why It Matters: Water planning isn't something most of us think about day to day, but it's one of the ways cities prepare for droughts, population growth, and changing water supplies. Updating the plan helps ensure Glendora has a roadmap for managing water resources and meeting the needs of nearly 13,000 customers in the years ahead.

🥩 Old-school steaks done right

2086 Foothill Blvd Ste D, La Verne

There’s something comforting about walking into The Tenderloin Restaurant. This longtime local favorite keeps things simple with generous cuts of prime rib, plank steak for two, steak and ribs, chicken and ribs, and satisfying starters like potato skins and enchilada soup. Friendly service and vintage country charm have kept families coming back for generations.

For Father’s Day, this one practically has Dad written all over it. Big steaks, hearty sides, and stories that somehow begin with “I remember when…” fit right in here. By dessert, there’s a decent chance he’ll be pointing out the longhorns behind the register and declaring, with complete confidence, “Now this is a steakhouse.”

From Spring Break to a Breakthrough

While most are coasting toward summer, The Leadership Course is inviting young men to step into a different kind of season: one built on grit, Scripture, and the quiet strength of the peaks above us.

• A steady, purposeful climb from curiosity to senior-year conviction.
• Blending spiritual depth with the resilience found on an expedition.
• Raising sons who know that the greatest leaders aren't the loudest.
