🍂 California adds Native American Day paid holiday
The Gist: California state workers are on track for a new paid day off each autumn. Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1841 on Sept. 25, making California Native American Day (celebrated on the fourth Friday of September) a paid state holiday. Authored by Assemblymember James Ramos, D-San Bernardino, the law grants state employees the paid holiday once funded by the Legislature.
Why It Matters: This is such a meaningful step for our state. It honors the rich history, culture, and enduring contributions of California’s Native American communities while giving state workers and school staff a long-term path toward an extra paid day off to spend with their families.
