The year’s just getting started, but some folks are already doing the steady, meaningful work. The kebab shop owners who remember your order. The student leaders helping shape campus life. The mentors guiding teens through real growth, one meetup at a time.

This week’s issue has a little of everything: stories worth knowing, events worth showing up for, and reminders that good things are happening close to home.
Glad you’re here as we step into 2026 together!

πŸŽ“ Local Student Leader's Journey Inspires Campus Change

Image
Photo from Instagram: citrus.college

The Gist: Claremont resident Hamza El Lahib turned an early graduation and a curious ear into meaningful civic work at Citrus College. Serving as a senator on the Associated Students of Citrus College Executive Board in 2024 to 2025, he helped represent students, weighed in on campus decisions, and worked across multiple governance committees. It is a reminder of how student leadership quietly shapes everyday college life.

Why It Matters: Programs like ASCC help grow thoughtful local leaders who strengthen our community from the ground up. Hamza is now studying political science at UCLA, with plans to return to education as a teacher.

✈️ A Big Milestone at Ontario Airport

Image

The Gist: As 2026 gets underway, Ontario International Airport is nearing 100,000 users of its ONT+ Visitor Pass Program. Launched in 2022, the free digital pass allows non-ticketed visitors to clear security, walk loved ones to the gate, or spend time in terminal shops and restaurants. It is a simple idea that has steadily reshaped the airport experience for local travelers and families.

Why It Matters: ONT was the first U.S. airport to bring this kind of access back, balancing convenience with TSA-approved security. The program continues to grow as ONT marks a decade of local control through November 2026.
