The smell of charcoal is back in the air, and if you've been outside after 6 p.m. this week, you've probably heard it before you saw it: a stray firework testing its luck a few days early. Somewhere a neighbor is already stringing up red, white, and blue bunting they swear they'll take down by August (they won't, and honestly, we love that for them).

This year feels a little different, too. It's not just Independence Day, it's the 250th one, and our little corner of the foothills is leaning into it hard. San Dimas is throwing a birthday party of its own on top of it, La Verne's pulling out its Liberty Bell, and Claremont's lacing up for a race before most of us have finished our coffee.

However you're spending the Fourth this year, whether it's front row for a parade or flat on a blanket waiting for fireworks, there's a whole lot happening around here worth planning your weekend around. Let's get into it.

⛳ Interest returns to Sierra La Verne

The Gist: Several potential buyers are once again exploring the shuttered Sierra La Verne Golf Course, but no development plans have been submitted. The 111-acre property remains zoned as open space and agricultural land, meaning any housing proposal would require City Council approval.

Why It Matters: If you live near the former golf course, this is a reminder that its future is still up in the air. While developers are showing interest, city leaders say neighbors will have a chance to weigh in before any major changes move forward, and community support could play a big role in what ultimately happens.

The inviting patio is a favorite for lingering over a meal, while the stylish interior offers a warm, European-inspired atmosphere. Add a well-crafted cocktail or glass of wine, and it's easy to see why Bardot has become a go-to for leisurely lunches and special nights out.
