The Gist: Hillcrest in La Verne marked National Centenarian Day, Sept 22, by celebrating eight residents over 100, including Margaret Coston and Graham Lovelace, both 102. Margaret, a retired teacher, still lives independently and credits healthy habits for her longevity. Graham, a World War II veteran and longtime volunteer, continues to stay active in community life. Hillcrest also released a book of residents’ life stories, with proceeds supporting its Benevolence Fund.

The Gist: Claremont McKenna College will dedicate the Robert Day Sciences Center on Friday, Sept. 26, marking the first building on its new Roberts Campus. Designed by world-renowned Bjarke Ingels Group, the 135,000-square-foot space will house the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences, with labs, classrooms, and gathering spaces centered around collaboration and innovation.

Why It Matters: The center brings a bold new hub for science education to Claremont, blending technology, research, and community in one striking new campus landmark. A ribbon-cutting ceremony happens Friday at 5 p.m. on the Social Stairs. Read more here.
